Military and Conscription Records
Military records "foglio matricolare" records begin around
1870. All male italian citizens are required to register at age
18. Information contained in them might include name, date of
birth, present address, parents and next of kin names. They also
may contain types of service and records of such. There are
exceptions, police officers do not have to register.
The Distretti militari holds these records after the 1870 time
frame. before this you will need to ask the Archivio di Stato of
the province you are searching in. This may also be a good idea
because the dates can vary from area to area.
